On Tuesday, March 11, 2025, heavy rainfall in Moulay Yacoub led to the overflow of Oued Bousroual, once again highlighting the region’s infrastructure and drainage system challenges.
According to a local source, 2.5 million dirhams, along with an additional 470,000 dirhams, have been allocated to the construction of sewage and drainage channels, reducing flood-related damage by 50%. However, further efforts are still needed. Local stakeholders are calling for additional support from external authorities, the Fes-Meknes Regional Council, the Provincial Council, and the Ministry of Interior to ensure the necessary improvements, especially considering the touristic importance of the area.
As part of the Risk Management Fund, the Moulay Yacoub Municipality has secured financial support estimated at 15 million dirhams through an agreement between the municipal council, the Ministry of Interior, and the Ministry of Finance. Two-thirds of this amount has been allocated to address soil erosion in the Fath subdivision, while the remaining funds have been directed towards mitigating damage in Oued Bousroual. Despite these interventions, more resources are needed for comprehensive infrastructure improvements.
Local observers hope for continued coordination among all relevant parties to support development projects in the region, ensuring an effective response to residents’ needs and aligning with local development priorities.
