“Fes News” has learned from a reliable source that local authorities and security services in the Figuig region, after 12 days of continuous efforts, have successfully located the body of a shepherd who had gone missing following flash floods caused by heavy rainfall in the area recently.
According to the same source, the shepherd was swept away while tending to his flock near one of the region’s rivers, where he was caught by the sudden floods brought on by the intense rain. The flash floods prevented him from reaching a safe area. In response, the authorities launched an intensive search operation, involving rescue teams, civil protection personnel, and local volunteers. The efforts culminated in finding his body over one and a half kilometers from the location where he went missing, near Bouanan in the Figuig province.
The available information revealed that the shepherd was from one of the villages in the Tamhadit commune, part of the Ifrane province. After the body was recovered, it underwent the required legal procedures, including a medical examination, before being handed over to his family for burial in his hometown of Tamhadit.
This tragic incident marks the second such occurrence in a short period, as a similar event occurred in the Zayou region, where a shepherd in his fifties was also swept away by floods while tending to his flock in the village of Ouled Amamou.
These recurring incidents raise concerns about the dangers faced by shepherds in rural areas during the rainy season, especially with the sudden rise of river levels, which endangers both their lives and their livestock. This situation underscores the need for increased awareness and preventive measures to avoid such tragic events in the future.
