In an exceptional move, the “Zouj Bghal” border crossing between Morocco and Algeria was opened last Friday to hand over more than 40 Moroccans who had been detained in Algerian prisons for irregular migration. This step came after the detainees had completed their sentences.
According to a Moroccan association dedicated to assisting migrants in difficult situations in Oujda, 42 Moroccans were handed over to the Kingdom after their detention period ended. The association noted that many Moroccans remain in pre-trial detention, with over 430 cases still under review. Additionally, six bodies, including those of two young women from Oujda, are awaiting repatriation to their families.
The association mentioned that it had previously facilitated judicial and administrative procedures for the repatriation of the deceased Moroccans to their families. It also affirmed that it works diligently and free of charge to support the families of detainees and advocate for their release.
This move is part of ongoing efforts to alleviate the suffering of Moroccan families affected by the detention of their loved ones abroad. It highlights the importance of cooperation between countries to resolve humanitarian issues peacefully and effectively.
