Umrah During Ramadan: Meningitis Vaccination Mandatory Once Again

The Saudi Ministry of Health announced that individuals wishing to perform Umrah during the holy month of Ramadan must receive the meningitis vaccination, emphasizing that this measure is part of efforts to combat infectious diseases.

The ministry clarified that the vaccination must be administered at least ten days before traveling for Umrah. It also noted that individuals who have received this vaccine within the past five years are exempt, as the vaccine remains effective during this period.

The ministry added that meningitis is transmitted through respiratory droplets from coughing or sneezing, necessitating the implementation of necessary preventive measures. Appointments for vaccination can be booked through the “Sehaty” app at adult vaccination centers.

The ministry stressed the importance of adhering to recommended preventive measures to ensure a safe and healthy Umrah experience for pilgrims. These measures are part of ongoing efforts to enhance health safety during Hajj and Umrah seasons, especially given the significant crowds in holy sites during Ramadan.
