Saturday Marks the First Day of Ramadan in Most Islamic Countries

As the sighting of the Ramadan crescent was observed across various Islamic nations, several countries have officially announced that Saturday, March 1, 2025, will mark the beginning of the holy month of Ramadan 1446 AH.

In the UAE, the moon-sighting committee confirmed that Saturday is the first day of Ramadan following their meeting at the historic Al Hosn site in Abu Dhabi. Similarly, in Saudi Arabia, the Royal Court announced, based on a ruling by the Supreme Court, that Saturday would be the start of the holy month.

Qatar’s Ministry of Endowments and Islamic Affairs also confirmed that Saturday will be the first day of Ramadan, a decision echoed by Oman, where authorities declared the moon had been sighted.

On an international level, both Indonesia and Australia have confirmed that Saturday marks the start of Ramadan. However, Malaysia and Brunei announced that the crescent moon was not visible, making Sunday, March 2, 2025, the first day of Ramadan in these two countries.

Astronomical calculations indicate that Saturday will be the beginning of Ramadan in most Arab countries, with official announcements continuing to be made based on local moon-sighting procedures and time zone differences.
