Parliamentarian Lahcen El Amoud from El Hadjeb constituency has reignited the debate over the location of the National School of Commerce and Management, despite the fact that the matter was previously resolved by choosing a real estate site in the Moulay Ismail University campus in Meknes.
During the oral question session in the House of Representatives on Monday, February 10, Amoud, who belongs to the Independence Party, criticized the transfer of the project from El Hadjeb to Meknes, calling it “absurd,” noting that the people of El Hadjeb had hoped to sign an agreement to establish the institution in 2020, only to be surprised by its relocation.
This controversy comes in light of the ministry’s policy aimed at grouping university institutions in unified poles, to ensure the proximity of university neighborhoods and enable professors to have appropriate conditions, and the project had witnessed several proposals for its location, starting from Meknes, then Wesselane, then El Hajeb, before it was returned to Meknes again after a real estate investor proposed a strategic container in the university pole.
A number of elected officials in Hajib oppose this decision, calling for the establishment of a multidisciplinary college instead of a school with limited polarization, in order to meet the needs of the region’s students and ease the burden of travel to Meknes.
