In a significant step towards a radical change in the healthcare sector in the Boulemane province, Member of Parliament Rashid Hamoni announced the imminent start of construction work for a proximity hospital in the center of Boulemane, following over eight years of anticipation from the local population hoping for improved healthcare services.
In a press statement on Tuesday evening, Hamoni confirmed that the Minister of Health and Social Protection assured him that the contracting company for the project had completed all necessary administrative procedures, indicating that construction will begin soon. This news was widely welcomed by the local residents, who expressed their relief after years of waiting.
Regarding the delays in the project, Hamoni attributed them to several factors, primarily the challenges related to land acquisition in the initial phase, as well as a significant increase in the project’s cost, which has risen to 17 million dirhams. Despite these challenges, the importance of the project remains undeniable, as it will provide comprehensive healthcare services to residents in the area, reflecting the ongoing efforts to meet the needs of the local population.
The proximity hospital will be constructed in the “Tinta” area, within the urban scope of the Boulemane Municipality, specifically at the entrance of the city from the direction of the Kiko Municipality. This area has long been in dire need of a healthcare facility that can serve the local population and ease the burden of traveling to larger cities for treatment.
It is important to note that this project comes after years of public demand and civic directives. Three years ago, civil society organizations in Boulemane and Mermoucha launched a petition calling for the creation of the proximity hospital to improve healthcare services and alleviate the pressure on existing health centers.
With the realization of this project, the dream of local residents for accessible healthcare services is closer to becoming a reality, which will greatly contribute to improving the overall health situation in the region and is seen as an important step towards enhancing sustainable development in the healthcare sector in areas far from major cities.
