As part of efforts to enhance rural communities’ ability to cope with the effects of climate change, Fes News has received a press release regarding the final workshop of the project “Water Resource Management to Alleviate Poverty and Strengthen Resilience in Rural Areas.” The workshop is scheduled to take place on Monday, February 17, 2025, in Kécou, Boulemane Province. This project is a collaboration between the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) and the Ministry of Equipment and Water, in partnership with the Sebou, Tensift, and Kher Ziz Ghris Water Basin Agencies. It aims to develop sustainable solutions for optimal water resource management in light of increasing climate challenges.
The workshop will provide an opportunity to discuss climate-related challenges in rural areas by reviewing the key results achieved in the Sebou Basin, exchanging experiences and lessons learned from project implementation, and evaluating field-applied measures, particularly pilot projects that could be expanded to enhance water sustainability.
Among the notable achievements of this project is the development of two new agreements aimed at managing and protecting public water resources while increasing rural communities’ ability to adapt to climate change. These agreements will be officially signed during the workshop, in the presence of all relevant partners, marking a commitment to developing sustainable mechanisms for water conservation and efficient use.
The workshop will also include a field visit to model projects implemented in Aït Said Ouhadou, where participants will have the opportunity to observe the measures adopted within the project and their effectiveness in improving water resource management.
This event aligns with national and international efforts to enhance climate adaptation and ensure water security in rural areas amid increasing environmental challenges.
