On Friday, January 31, 2025, the Al-Shifa Association for Cancer Prevention and Research organized a groundbreaking international conference on “Urological and Genital Cancers” in its seventh edition. The event was chaired by Dr. Noufel Amlas, Head of the Oncology Department at Hassan II University Hospital in Fes, and took place at the Marriott Hotel in Fes.
Under the theme “Urological and Genital Cancers: The Present and Future,” the conference was attended by leading international cancer experts from prestigious research centers worldwide, including institutions in the United States such as Cleveland, Washington, and Boston Universities, alongside the Gustave Roussy Institute in Paris. These experts presented the latest research and developments in the fight against cancers affecting the urological and genital systems, such as prostate, bladder, and kidney cancer, which remain major challenges in terms of treatment and prevention.
In his opening speech, Dr. Noufel Amlas highlighted the importance of the event in fostering international collaboration and knowledge exchange in the fight against these types of cancer. He stated, “We are here today to discuss the latest scientific advancements in cancer treatment, offering specialists from around the world a platform to interact and share knowledge to improve treatments and raise awareness on the importance of prevention in facing this disease.”
In addition to scientific discussions, Dr. Amlas introduced the “National Bladder Cancer Care Guideline” for the first time during this conference. This initiative marks a significant step towards providing unified treatment methods and improving access to healthcare for cancer patients in Morocco.
This year’s conference also marked a pivotal moment in enhancing African collaboration in cancer research and treatment. A dedicated session was held to discuss “Urological and Genital Cancers in Africa,” with representatives from several African countries. During this session, the launch of the African Network for Fighting Urological and Genital Cancers was announced, underscoring the collective efforts to combat this type of cancer on the continent.
Dr. Amlas explained that the network would facilitate the exchange of experiences, provide specialized medical training, and promote scientific research in African nations, benefiting the health of African populations in the fight against this widespread disease.
The seventh international conference organized by the Al-Shifa Association represents a significant step towards achieving tangible progress in cancer treatment in the region, through scientific cooperation, research, and the unification of international efforts to combat this major health challenge.
