As part of ongoing security efforts to combat organized crime, the Regional Judicial Police Brigade in Fez, in close coordination with the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGST), successfully dismantled a dangerous criminal network on Monday, March 3rd. This gang was engaged in kidnapping, illegal detention, ransom extortion, and drug trafficking.
The operation led to the arrest of nine individuals aged between 34 and 68, including three women and a man with a criminal record for similar offenses. Investigations revealed that the suspects lured a victim, kidnapped, and detained him before demanding a ransom from his family, which was paid before authorities were alerted and launched an intensive investigation to identify those involved.
Simultaneous arrests were carried out in Meknes, El Hajeb, Ain Jri, and Boufakrane, leading to the seizure of six vehicles used in the criminal activities. Security forces also recovered a significant portion of the ransom money, personal documents belonging to the victim, and photos documenting his detention.
In a major escalation, a raid on a house used by the gang uncovered a large shipment of drugs, totaling three tons of cannabis resin (chira), further confirming the organized nature of the network.
Seven of the suspects have been placed in police custody pending further investigation under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor’s Office. Authorities continue to probe the circumstances, motives, and possible extensions of this criminal operation.
