Minister of Agriculture Responds to Controversy Over Potential Cancellation of Eid al-Adha

Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water, and Forests, Ahmed El Bouari, has sparked widespread debate regarding the potential cancellation of the upcoming Eid al-Adha. During a session of oral questions in the House of Representatives, he confirmed that the ministry is conducting a national census of the national livestock, specifically goats and sheep, to determine the actual numbers available in Morocco this year. This initiative responds to parliamentary inquiries about the possibility of canceling the holiday.

Livestock Census
El Bouari explained that the census includes assessing goat and sheep populations across all regions of the country, as well as identifying the number of producers in this sector. He emphasized that his ministry is working on a realistic program to increase the national livestock count.

Meat Prices
Regarding meat prices, the minister noted a rise in both red and white meat prices, attributing this increase to heightened demand rather than production imbalances. He also confirmed that Morocco continues to import livestock and red meat from over 45 countries, reflecting its openness to global markets.

These statements come at a time when citizens are facing noticeable increases in meat prices, raising concerns about the purchasing power of Moroccans.
