Meknes is witnessing significant developments in its agricultural sector this season, as local authorities continue to enhance their strategies to address climate change challenges and ensure sustainable agricultural production. One of the key components of these efforts is the adoption of direct seeding technology, aimed at improving land productivity and increasing resilience to reduced rainfall.
In a statement by Mohamed Yajou, the Regional Director of the Ministry of Agriculture in Meknes, during a meeting with local farmers, he confirmed that the ministry is actively supporting this initiative by providing essential equipment and intensifying training programs. He highlighted that the ministry has distributed specialized seeders for direct seeding to farmers in the region.
The regional director explained that the direct seeding technique involves planting seeds directly on the soil surface, which allows the soil to make the most of the limited rainfall. Furthermore, he noted that the ministry has launched extensive training programs for farmers to help them understand the mechanisms of this technique and how to maximize its benefits. The ultimate goal is to cultivate one million hectares of land using direct seeding technology in the coming years.
