The Judicial Police Service in the city of Fes has successfully dismantled a criminal network consisting of eight individuals, including a nurse and a person working in an herbal shop, involved in illegal abortion operations and unauthorized distribution of medications.
Initial investigations revealed that the arrest operation came after one of the suspects was caught in possession of 50 medical tablets used in abortion procedures. Investigations showed her involvement in supplying these pills to a nurse working at a medical center in Fes.
A search operation at the second suspect’s home resulted in the seizure of an additional 49 medical tablets, along with medical equipment and medications used in abortion procedures, as well as medical certificates and pregnancy test devices, in addition to sums of money suspected to be proceeds from this illegal activity.
The Judicial Police managed to arrest the remaining individuals involved in the case, who were subjected to investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office. The public prosecutor at the Court of First Instance in Fes ordered the detention of two female suspects in the local prison pending trial, while the rest of the suspects were released on bail.
This investigation comes as part of the ongoing efforts by security services to combat illegal practices that pose a risk to public health.
