Over 72 Kilograms of Cocaine Seized in Two Security Operations in Morocco

Moroccan security services and customs successfully thwarted two attempts to smuggle a large quantity of cocaine on Saturday, October 26, 2024, in separate operations at Tangier Med Port and the Guerguerat border crossing south of Dakhla city.

The first operation at the Guerguerat crossing resulted in the seizure of approximately 56 kilograms of cocaine carefully hidden inside an international transport truck arriving from a sub-Saharan African country. A total of 197 plates of the drug were seized, and the 55-year-old truck driver was arrested.

The second operation took place at Tangier Med Port, where police and customs officers discovered 14 plates of cocaine weighing more than 16 kilograms, concealed in a maritime shipping container arriving from a Latin American country.

The competent judicial police services have initiated their investigations under the supervision of the public prosecutor’s office to uncover the smuggling networks involved in these operations and track the routes and destinations of the drugs, in coordination with Interpol offices in the concerned countries.

The total drugs seized in both operations amounted to 72 kilograms and 180 grams of cocaine, confirming the effectiveness of Moroccan security measures in combating international drug trafficking.
