In a controversial incident, large quantities of hashish were discovered dumped on the roadside between the city of Sidi Ifni and the rural commune of Mesti, about 21.5 kilometers to the south, on Tuesday evening.
Road users and residents of the Arbaa Mesti area, near Sidi Ifni, were surprised to find suitcases full of hashish abandoned on the side of the road. One internet user from the area confirmed that “the quantity discovered is very large,” questioning the presence of drug trafficking networks in the region.
Local residents expressed their astonishment at the enormous amount of drugs thrown on the road leading to the Douar Ouled Idriss in the Mesti commune of Sidi Ifni province.
Competent authorities have not commented on the incident, which put the Royal Gendarmerie on alert, prompting them to close all entrances leading to the area.
Local sources suggested that the incident might be related to a pursuit involving a member of drug trafficking gangs, who may have chosen to dispose of his cargo while fleeing.
It is worth noting that this incident highlights the ongoing challenges of combating drug trafficking in the region and raises questions about the effectiveness of the security measures in place to fight this phenomenon.
