Tragedy in Chefchaouen: Collective Circumcision Turns into Health Disaster

Chefchaouen – The Moroccan city of Chefchaouen witnessed a tragic incident following a collective circumcision operation organized by a local association, leading to severe health complications for several participating children.

The collective circumcision was organized on September 20th, on the occasion of celebrating the Prophet’s birthday, for children from underprivileged families. However, the situation quickly deteriorated, with serious complications appearing in many children, necessitating their hospitalization in Chefchaouen.

As the health condition of some children worsened, five of them were transferred last Sunday to the pediatric emergency department at Mohammed VI University Hospital in Tangier to receive necessary treatment.

The affected children range in age from 5 months to a year and a half. According to media sources, the condition of two of the children is considered extremely serious and may lead to permanent disability that is difficult to treat.

In the wake of this tragic incident, human rights associations have called on the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, local authorities, and all responsible parties to open an urgent investigation to determine the circumstances of this tragedy.

It is worth noting that this incident has sparked widespread controversy about the need to regulate collective circumcision operations and ensure they are conducted under specialized medical supervision to avoid such serious complications in the future.
