Taounate – Local circles have, in recent weeks, circulated information and complaints attributed to a number of parents of pupils in the commune of Beni Oualid and the Taounate center, expressing growing concerns over what is being described as the spread of cannabis use among some adolescents and minors, amid calls for an investigation and for the competent authorities to verify the accuracy of these reports.
According to the content of a public post published on the social media platform Facebook, through which a number of activists addressed an appeal to the Regional Command of the Royal Gendarmerie in Taounate, the Royal Gendarmerie Company in Beni Oualid, as well as the local authorities, several families spoke of cases allegedly linked to the distribution of drugs to minors, calling on the competent security services to investigate these allegations and determine their veracity.
The information in circulation, which Fès News was unable to independently verify, indicates that some families consider that the identities of people suspected of being involved in the distribution of these substances have become known locally, while, as of the preparation of this report, no published official information has confirmed these allegations or established responsibility for them.
The same post also contains allegations that some cafés are being used as places where suspected cases of drug use by minors allegedly take place, with the names of two cafés repeatedly appearing in the circulating information.
Fès News stresses that these references remain allegations and unconfirmed information, and do not mean that any offence or criminal liability has been established against the individuals or establishments mentioned, pending the necessary investigations and the issuance of official findings by the competent authorities.
In this context, the demands contained in the post call for increased monitoring around educational institutions and places frequented by minors, as well as verification of the sources of drugs suspected of reaching this category, in addition to determining the legal consequences if investigations establish that acts contrary to the law have occurred.
These demands come amid growing local concern about protecting minors from the risks associated with drugs, given that addressing the phenomenon requires, alongside the law-enforcement aspect, coordinated roles for families, educational institutions, the competent authorities and civil society actors.
Only an official investigation can establish the truth of these allegations and the responsibilities associated with them, while every person or party mentioned in this information remains entitled to the presumption of innocence until proven otherwise in accordance with the law.
Taounate..
