Bamako – Le Mali, le Niger et le Burkina Faso, membres de l’Alliance des États du Sahel (AES), ont annoncé le lancement officiel des démarches en vue de présenter une candidature conjointe pour l’organisation de la Coupe d’Afrique des Nations (CAN) 2032. Cette annonce fait suite à une réunion entre les responsables des fédérations de football des trois pays et le président de la Confédération africaine de football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe.
Les fédérations nationales de football ont indiqué que cette rencontre constitue une étape essentielle dans le processus de candidature. Les parties sont convenues de poursuivre les procédures prévues par les règlements de la CAF afin de préparer un dossier répondant aux normes continentales et internationales requises pour l’organisation de la compétition.
Ce projet commun vise à proposer une nouvelle vision de l’organisation de la Coupe d’Afrique des Nations, en renforçant la coopération entre les pays de l’Alliance des États du Sahel et en offrant une compétition conforme aux exigences de la Confédération africaine de football.
En ce qui concerne les infrastructures, le Burkina Faso a déjà accueilli la compétition en 1998, tandis que le Mali a organisé l’édition de 2002. Le Niger, pour sa part, n’a encore jamais accueilli la phase finale du tournoi. Au cours des dernières années, le Mali et le Burkina Faso ont renforcé leurs infrastructures sportives : le Mali dispose actuellement de cinq stades homologués par la CAF, tandis que le Stade du 4-Août à Ouagadougou a obtenu son homologation en 2025. De son côté, le Niger poursuit les travaux de mise à niveau du Stade Général Seyni Kountché afin qu’il réponde aux normes continentales.
Cette initiative intervient dans l’attente de l’ouverture, par la Confédération africaine de football, de la procédure officielle de dépôt des candidatures pour l’organisation de l’édition 2032 de la compétition.
English Version Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso Officially Announce Joint Bid to Host the 2032 Africa Cup of Nations
Bamako – Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso, members of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES), have officially launched the process of submitting a joint bid to host the 2032 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON). The announcement follows a meeting between the presidents of the football federations of the three countries and the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Patrice Motsepe.
The three national football federations stated that the meeting marked a key milestone in the bidding process. The parties agreed to continue the procedures set out in CAF regulations in order to prepare a bid that meets the continental and international standards required to host the tournament.
The joint project aims to present a new vision for hosting the Africa Cup of Nations by strengthening cooperation among the member states of the Alliance of Sahel States and delivering a tournament that meets the requirements of the Confederation of African Football.
Regarding infrastructure, Burkina Faso previously hosted the tournament in 1998, while Mali organized the 2002 edition. Niger has never hosted the final tournament. In recent years, both Mali and Burkina Faso have upgraded their sports infrastructure. Mali currently has five CAF-approved stadiums, while Ouagadougou’s Stade du 4-Août received CAF approval in 2025. Meanwhile, Niger is continuing the renovation of the Général Seyni Kountché Stadium to ensure it complies with CAF standards.
This initiative comes as the Confederation of African Football prepares to open the official bidding process for hosting the 2032 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations.
