One year after the launch of the high-speed rail project linking Kenitra to Marrakech, new data reveal significant progress in this strategic undertaking, considered one of the largest infrastructure projects in Morocco.
According to available information, the project is part of an ambitious national program to modernize the railway network, with a total investment of 96 billion dirhams. This includes 53 billion dirhams for the construction of the high-speed line, 29 billion dirhams for the acquisition of 168 trains, and 14 billion dirhams dedicated to upgrading the existing network.
The new line will stretch approximately 430 kilometers. Land acquisition and clearance processes have been completed, enabling accelerated progress in construction, particularly in civil engineering works.
In this context, around 20 million cubic meters of excavation and earthworks have already been carried out. Major infrastructure components are also underway, including 15 overpasses and three covered sections at strategic locations such as Casablanca Airport, Zenata, and Ain Atiq, in addition to 92 engineering structures, including road and rail bridges.
On the equipment side, large quantities of essential materials have been mobilized, including 2.5 million tons of railway ballast, 800,000 tons of sleepers, and over 100,000 tons of rail tracks, along with 220 switching systems, in line with the project’s implementation schedule.
Work is also ongoing on currently operational خطوط, alongside preparations for advanced signaling systems. Architectural designs for stations have been completed, with construction beginning in early 2026 and expected to be gradually rolled out by July.
The project is expected to serve as a major economic driver, involving around 150 companies—two-thirds of which are Moroccan—thereby strengthening the national industrial fabric and facilitating knowledge transfer.
This initiative reflects Morocco’s vision of developing a modern and sustainable transportation system, offering fast and efficient mobility while enhancing regional attractiveness, in line with the country’s broader infrastructure transformation.
