Tensions between the United States and China have escalated over accusations related to the use of artificial intelligence models, as Beijing firmly rejected what it described as “unfounded claims” of large-scale replication of American technology.
Speaking at a press briefing, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Guo Jiakun stated that the U.S. accusations are “baseless,” arguing that they are part of a “smear campaign” targeting China’s achievements in the field of artificial intelligence.
The response follows statements by White House technology adviser Michael Kratsios, who indicated that the United States possesses information suggesting that “foreign entities, particularly in China,” have been covertly using American AI models on a large scale to replicate their capabilities.
In a related development, the Chinese company DeepSeek announced the launch of a new artificial intelligence model, reflecting the intensifying competition between the two powers in this strategic sector.
Beijing has called on Washington to “adhere to facts and abandon bias,” urging an end to what it described as restrictive technological policies, and advocating instead for enhanced cooperation and knowledge exchange between the two countries.
Artificial intelligence has become one of the key points of contention between Washington and Beijing, amid a rapidly accelerating global race for leadership in advanced technologies—especially with an anticipated visit by U.S. President Donald Trump to China expected in mid-May.
