The Kingdom of Morocco and the United States held high-level talks in Washington as part of the 14th session of the Defense Consultative Committee, held from April 14 to 16, 2026, in a move reflecting the strength of the strategic partnership between the two countries and its development across multiple fields.
These meetings saw the reception of the Minister Delegate to the Head of Government in charge of National Defense, Abdellatif Loudiyi, and the Inspector General of the Royal Armed Forces and Commander of the Southern Region, Lieutenant General Mohamed Briz, by U.S. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth, in the presence of Morocco’s Ambassador to Washington, Youssef El Amrani, and the U.S. Ambassador to Rabat, Duke Boukan III.
According to available information, these meetings provided an opportunity to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in the fields of defense, the military industry, and cybersecurity, while reaffirming the depth of the historical ties between the two countries, which are based on an ongoing strategic partnership under the leadership of the highest authorities of both nations.
During these talks, the United States also reaffirmed its support for Morocco’s sovereignty over its Sahara, in recognition of the role Morocco plays in promoting security and stability at the regional and international levels.
In a related context, U.S. Senator Dave McCormick highlighted the strength of Moroccan-American relations, noting that the Kingdom was the first country to recognize the independence of the United States in 1777, which establishes a historic alliance spanning more than 250 years.
In a statement posted on “X,” the U.S. official emphasized that this relationship is one of the oldest diplomatic partnerships in the world, noting that it is based on shared political, security, and economic interests and reflects a common commitment to strengthening cooperation in the face of current challenges.
These statements follow a visit by a high-level Moroccan military delegation to Washington, which culminated in the signing of a roadmap to strengthen defense cooperation between the two countries, reflecting a move toward developing the military partnership and expanding its scope.
According to observers, this ongoing diplomatic and military engagement underscores Morocco and the United States’ commitment to cementing a long-term strategic alliance based on trust and joint coordination, amid the geopolitical shifts the world is witnessing.
