On Saturday, September 27, 2025, security authorities at Tangier Med Port thwarted an unusual attempt to smuggle a large quantity of psychoactive drugs when a Moroccan man holding Spanish nationality was caught concealing 12,000 Rivotril pills in his “swollen belly.”
The operation took place during a routine inspection of a light vehicle bearing foreign license plates, recently arrived by sea from a European port. Security officers noticed suspicious behavior and conducted a thorough search.
Under the suspect’s clothing, authorities discovered the carefully concealed large batch of pills. The man, aged 43, was immediately arrested and taken into custody pending investigation under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor.
The seized drugs were transferred to a specialized laboratory for analysis. The authorities are working to identify local and international links connected to this trafficking, which is often part of transnational drug networks.
