Taza, Morocco – Residents of the Beit Ghoulam neighborhood in the city of Taza, particularly those living near the Hammam Bouhout, have issued an urgent plea to local authorities due to a public lighting outage that has lasted for more than eight days. This has plunged the area into complete darkness, leading to a rise in security concerns among the residents.
According to residents’ testimonies, the deep darkness has led to the proliferation of stray dogs, which now pose a threat to passersby, especially in the late hours of the night. Their fears of being subjected to theft and assault have also increased, jeopardizing their safety and the security of their property.
Those affected by this situation are calling on the elected Communal Council of Taza, as the primary body responsible for managing local affairs, to intervene immediately to repair the public lighting network and restore a sense of security to the neighborhood. The responsibility of the elected council lies in providing essential services to citizens, with public lighting being a fundamental condition for ensuring safety and security in residential areas.
The residents hope that officials will respond to their appeal and move from a phase of promises to one of action, to end their suffering and restore normalcy to the “Beit Ghoulam” neighborhood.
