School Year 2025: Ministry of National Education Adopts a Gradual Start for the Academic Year

The Ministry of National Education, Early Childhood Education, and Sports has issued the ministerial decree organizing the 2025/2026 school year, revealing important updates, most notably the adoption of a gradual schedule for student enrollment based on grade levels.

According to the decree, administrative and educational staff, as well as teachers, will report to their workplaces to sign attendance records starting Monday, September 1, 2025.

Gradual School Start by Grade Levels:

  • Tuesday, September 2, 2025: Early childhood education children, students of first and second grades of primary school, first year of lower secondary education, and the common core of upper secondary education will begin their classes.
  • Wednesday, September 3, 2025: Students of third and fourth grades of primary school, second year of lower secondary education, and the first year of the baccalaureate cycle in upper secondary education will join.
  • Thursday, September 4, 2025: Students of fifth and sixth grades of primary school, second year of lower secondary education, and the second year of the baccalaureate cycle in upper secondary education will join.

During this period, students will be introduced to the internal regulations of the institutions, available services, and educational and sports activities, in addition to support for students in special situations.

Official Start of Classes:

Classes will officially and compulsorily begin on Monday, September 8, 2025 for early childhood education, primary, lower secondary, and upper secondary education levels. Remedial schooling and second-chance classes will begin on Monday, October 6, 2025.

The ministry emphasized the necessity of taking the necessary measures to ensure a smooth and effective start to the school year on the specified dates.

Continuation of Implementing the “Roadmap 2022-2026”:

The new school year will see the continued implementation of the “Roadmap 2022-2026,” which includes:

  • Expansion of Pioneer Institutions: Increasing the number to reach 4,634 primary schools and 786 lower secondary schools.
  • Teaching Amazigh and English: Generalizing the teaching of the Amazigh language to cover 50% of primary schools and continuing to generalize the teaching of English across all three levels of lower secondary education.
  • Combating School Dropout: Activating vigilant monitoring mechanisms and proactive approaches to reduce school dropout rates.
