The local authorities in Beni Mellal announced on Friday evening a serious incident involving a man, approximately 45 years old, who ended his protest atop a high water tank in the Oulad Youssef commune by throwing himself off while placing a rope around his neck.
The individual was transported in critical condition to Beni Mellal Hospital, where he is currently in intensive care.
Authorities confirmed that their interventions since the beginning of the protest aimed at saving him, including attempts to engage in dialogue with the participation of his family and human rights representatives, but the man refused all proposed solutions.
In a dangerous escalation, sources reported that the protester feigned a health issue to lure rescue personnel, then attacked one of them with a sharp weapon, tied him up, and pushed him off the tank, causing serious fractures.
Subsequently, Royal Gendarmerie forces intervened to stop him and prevent harm to himself and others, but he violently resisted using sharp objects and stones. Despite the presence of a safety air cushion, he fell from the top of the tank.
A judicial investigation has been opened under the supervision of the competent public prosecutor’s office to thoroughly determine the circumstances of this incident and take the necessary legal measures.
