Analysts on the RMC Sport program “After-Foot” emphasized that Moroccan international Achraf Hakimi, the right-back for Paris Saint-Germain, who is having an exceptional season, “deserves to be awarded the Ballon d’Or.”
Commentator Kevin Diaz considers Hakimi the number one choice, both in terms of statistics and his significant influence on the game, to the point of “revolutionizing his position.”
Diaz stated, “If I had to vote for number one, I would vote for Achraf Hakimi, given his consistency, career, and what he does with his national team.”
At 26 years old, Hakimi has scored 10 goals and provided 14 assists, maintaining an extraordinary and consistent level of play. Diaz describes him as “impressing with his consistency at the highest level,” noting that the Atlas Lions captain “can operate in multiple areas on the pitch, embodying a new prototype of a full-back.”
He added, “Hakimi plays almost like a number 9 striker. What he brings to the right-back position is exceptional. He is revolutionizing this role. He has the statistics of a forward in some leagues, yet he is a defender.”
The program highlighted Hakimi’s technical skills, endurance, decisiveness, and his ability to play multiple positions—winger, central midfielder, and attacker—without any drop in performance.
Hakimi has also shone this season on the European stage, scoring crucial goals against Aston Villa (UEFA Champions League quarter-final second leg), Arsenal (semi-final second leg), and Inter Milan in the Champions League final, as well as in the FIFA Club World Cup in the United States.

Although Diaz acknowledges that the Ballon d’Or rarely goes to defenders—except notably Fabio Cannavaro in 2006—he believes Hakimi deserves to be counted among the greats.
Hakimi joined the French capital in 2021 from Inter Milan and quickly established himself as an indispensable member of Luis Enrique’s squad.
