The Tangier Regional Judicial Police Division opened a judicial investigation on the evening of Tuesday, June 24, under the supervision of the Public Prosecutor’s Office at the Tangier Court of Appeal, to determine the circumstances surrounding the death of a man with a criminal record.
According to preliminary information, a police officer began verifying the identity of the suspect, who appeared to be in an abnormal state and presented an identification document bearing another person’s name upon arrival at the bus station. The suspect resisted arrest and attempted to flee after pushing the officer, who pursued and apprehended him following a fall.
During the intervention, the suspect swallowed a plastic bag suspected of containing doses of a powdered chemical substance believed to be narcotic. The bag was seized and sent for scientific analysis to determine its nature and chemical composition. The suspect was transported to the hospital to receive necessary medical treatment after entering a hysterical state but later died.
The deceased’s body was retained for an autopsy to accurately determine the cause of death. Authorities are currently reviewing footage from the police officer’s body camera, which recorded the security operation, and are interviewing several witnesses who observed the incident to clarify the facts and uncover all circumstances surrounding the case.
