Casablanca, Morocco – In an escalating move, the National Health Syndicate, affiliated with the Democratic Confederation of Labour (CDT), announced on May 31, 2025, the organization of a “national mobilization” in the city of Marrakesh on Thursday, June 19, 2025. This protest comes in response to what the syndicate described as “violations of the law, corruption, laxity, thuggery, and the control of a corrupt octopus over the health administration in the Marrakesh-Safi region.”
Accusations of Mismanagement and Undermining Health Services
In detail, the syndicate stated in its communiqué that its decision follows “the continued spread of law violations, laxity, chaos, thuggery, and the control of a corrupt octopus over all facets of a complicit regional health administration in the Marrakesh-Safi region, along with the Marrakesh delegate who is addicted to violating the law and overstepping the powers of the Minister of Health and Social Protection.”
The statement added that the situation has worsened with “the continued undermining of health services and tampering with the health system in Marrakesh and its provinces within the region,” which has led to “the condemnation of honest professionals in the Marrakesh-Safi region for this miserable situation and their loss of confidence in their work.” The syndicate pointed to “the absence of any intervention to stop these illegal, corrupt, and abnormal practices that harm Marrakesh and the region.”
Calls to the Minister and Civil Society
The syndicate has “sounded the alarm several times about the necessity of eradicating the malignant disease from the body of Marrakesh and the region by applying the law to all and fighting rent-seeking, corruption, laxity, thuggery, and the prevailing chaos.” It warned of “the great danger, as corruption, laxity, and the poisoned tentacles of the octopus have extended to multiple aspects of the health sector and beyond, which portends a potential explosion of the situation that could harm the image of the city and the region.”
Accordingly, the National Bureau of the National Health Syndicate calls upon:
- The Minister of Health to “urgently address Marrakesh and the region by placing the right official in the right place and addressing the chronic health problems in the region, before it is too late.”
- Accountability for those responsible for the deteriorating health conditions experienced by citizens and suffered by professionals, due to “a complicit administration that has surrendered and practically handed over the health sector to a corrupt octopus that has become in control of the sector in Marrakesh city and the region, tampering with it for corrupt and illicit personal gains.”
- Friendly syndicates and civil society that advocate for the right to health, fight corruption, defend rights and law, and demand the protection of public funds, to “participate in this militant stage.”
Mobilization of Activists
The National Bureau urges “all male and female activists of the syndicate from all regions and provinces to attend this historic national mobilization in large numbers, by mobilizing all resources.” Activists will be informed of the logistical details for the national mobilization through a special memorandum, after coordination with the regional bureau and allies and friends “who believe in the righteousness of the cause.”
