Contrary to what the government says… Rising food prices ahead of Ramadan worry consumers

According to local sources, the price of red meat increased by 5 dirhams per kilogram, while tomatoes witnessed a noticeable increase, reaching a price of 8 dirhams per kilogram after selling for 6 dirhams last week.

The prices of onions and cucumbers also recorded a slight increase of about one dirham, bringing the price of a kilogram to 6 dirhams, while citizens continue to notice successive increases in the prices of a number of consumer products as the holy month approaches.

In contrast, fruit prices were relatively stable this week, with avocado prices reaching 23 dirhams per kilogram, imported bananas 18 dirhams, while local bananas stabilized at 10 dirhams, and apples ranged between 11 dirhams for local apples and 23 dirhams for imported apples.

Despite the government’s announcement of measures to curb price hikes and ease the pressure on Moroccan families during Ramadan, consumers still express concern about the continued high prices, saying that the measures taken have not yet been reflected on prices in the markets.
