Tragedy in Taounate: Phone Charger Claims Child’s Life

A tragic incident occurred in the Taounate region, resulting in the death of an 11-year-old boy due to a fire that broke out in a room of a rural home in the Douar Beni Darkoul, part of the Tafrant municipality. The unfortunate event took place on Tuesday morning when a phone charger connected to electricity ignited flames.

According to local sources, the incident was caused by the charger overheating while it was left plugged in to charge the mobile phone. This led to the ignition of a foam mattress on which the phone was placed while connected to the charger.

The burning of the foam mattress produced thick and toxic smoke, resulting in the child’s suffocation and immediate death. Despite efforts to extinguish the fire before it spread to other parts of the house, significant damage had already occurred.

The child’s body was transferred to the forensic medicine department for an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Meanwhile, the royal gendarmerie has launched an investigation to uncover the circumstances surrounding this tragic incident.

This event serves as a painful reminder of the importance of taking safety precautions when using electronic devices, especially at night. It is advised not to leave devices charging unattended and to avoid placing them on flammable surfaces such as beds and sofas.
