The commune of Ain Chekef in the Moulay Yacoub province witnessed a remarkable medical day on Saturday, December 21, 2024, with a specialized medical caravan focused on ophthalmology and eye surgery. This initiative was organized through a partnership between the Regional Delegation of Health and Social Protection, the “Fès Spirit of Africa” Association, and the “Jabr for Rural and Environmental Development” Association.
The caravan, which featured a medical team of four specialized ophthalmologists, including Dr. Marrakechi Ben Jafar Taha, provided comprehensive eye examinations to 217 residents of Ain Chekef. The efforts led to the identification of 80 cases requiring surgical intervention for cataract treatment, with surgeries to be performed free of charge at the Omar Idrissi Hospital in Fès.
Dr. Marrakechi Ben Jafar Taha emphasized that the initiative aims to deliver specialized medical services to populations facing barriers to accessing adequate healthcare. The caravan not only facilitated the detection of cases necessitating surgical procedures but also distributed free medication to patients diagnosed with minor conditions.
The President of the “Fès Spirit of Africa” Association commended the efforts of the medical and organizational teams, highlighting that this caravan marks the first phase of a series of initiatives planned for other regions, including Ras El Ma and Zlilg. The ultimate goal, he noted, is to foster social solidarity and enhance access to healthcare services.
A spokesperson for the Regional Delegation of Health and Social Protection in Moulay Yacoub explained that the campaign is part of a broader strategy aimed at reducing treatment delays and providing medical care to underserved populations. The initiative is supported by the Regional Directorate of Health and Social Protection for the Fès-Meknès region and involves contributions from medical, nursing, and administrative staff, alongside the provision of necessary medications and equipment.
