In collaboration with the Boujloud Bassoun Center for Sociological Research and the Sociology and Psychology Laboratory at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities in Fes, a scientific lecture was held on December 12, 2024, by renowned thinker and anthropologist Abdullah Hammoudi. The lecture, attended by professors and researchers, addressed the current state of social sciences in Morocco, focusing on the challenges they face in confronting major social transformations.
Salah El-Din Laarini, a research professor and head of the Boujloud Bassoun Center for Sociological Research, opened the event by noting that the lecture is part of an intellectual project led by Abdullah Hammoudi, who is considered one of the most prominent Moroccan thinkers internationally. Laarini highlighted Hammoudi’s theoretical contributions aimed at reevaluating the reality of social sciences in light of rapid social changes occurring in Moroccan society.
Laarini emphasized that the purpose of the lecture was not only to engage in academic discussion with Hammoudi about his critical project but also to offer students and young researchers, particularly those in master’s and doctoral programs, the opportunity to benefit from Hammoudi’s distinguished research experience. He further noted that such meetings represent a valuable opportunity to explore Hammoudi’s unique path in producing critical scientific knowledge on a global scale.
In his lecture, Abdullah Hammoudi examined the key issues facing social sciences in Morocco, stressing the need for a reevaluation of the methodologies and directions being followed in the field. He pointed out that the challenges facing social sciences are not merely academic; they are deeply intertwined with the social, economic, and political transformations occurring in Moroccan society.
Hammoudi also discussed the impact of these transformations on various social groups, particularly in light of the country’s ongoing economic and cultural changes. He stressed the urgent need for developing research methods that contribute to a deeper understanding of the challenges facing society and for creating scientific social knowledge capable of keeping pace with these transformations.
In conclusion, Laarini highlighted that the meeting was an opportunity for the integration of generations between young researchers and prominent thinkers like Abdullah Hammoudi. He emphasized that the goal is to enrich the academic dialogue surrounding social sciences and to support new researchers in building pioneering scientific projects that contribute to the development of social understanding in Moroccan society.
