Residents of the Al-Zohour neighborhood in Fes have expressed their gratitude to the regional governor for efforts to clear sidewalks from unauthorized occupation, which had been obstructing pedestrian movement. However, some shop owners have begun using the cleared sidewalks as extensions of their storefronts to display merchandise. This forces pedestrians to walk on roads intended for vehicles, posing serious safety risks and increasing the likelihood of traffic accidents.
The neighborhood’s residents hope that local authorities will continue their efforts to ensure sidewalks remain dedicated to pedestrian use. They also call for stricter enforcement to curb such practices, which undermine the primary purpose of sidewalk clearance.
