On Tuesday, December 10, 2024, the Fez Court of Appeal upheld the initial verdict against a high school principal who appeared in a video harassing a student in his office.
The criminal chamber of the Court of Appeal, in a public session and in the presence of all parties, confirmed the original judgment sentencing the principal of Attakadoum High School, located in the Ain Chqef commune, to five years in prison for indecent assault on a minor with violence and abuse of power.
The principal of this educational institution was also fined 1,000 dirhams. This decision comes after the victims’ families waived civil claims against him. The accused must also bear the minimum court costs with bodily constraint. He has ten days to file an appeal in cassation.
The details of this case date back to last April when the Royal Gendarmerie arrested the high school principal after a national search warrant was issued against him. He turned himself in to the authorities after a video circulated on social media showing him harassing one of his students.
It’s worth noting that this case sparked widespread controversy in Moroccan society and highlighted the issue of sexual harassment in educational institutions. The relevant authorities have emphasized the importance of taking strict measures to protect students from any form of exploitation or abuse within schools and universities.
