As part of efforts to raise health awareness among girls, the Regional Directorate of Health and Social Protection in the Fes-Meknes region, with support from the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), organized an intensive awareness campaign on menstrual hygiene.
The campaign targeted schoolgirls and residents of student housing centers in the Taza province and ran from December 2 to 6, 2024. It involved extensive participation from healthcare and educational teams, focusing on adolescent girls.
In partnership with the National Association of Midwives and the Moroccan Midwives Association, Fes-Meknes Chapter, the campaign offered a series of informative sessions and interactive presentations. These addressed the psychological and physical changes associated with puberty and highlighted proper hygiene practices during menstruation, warning of the health risks associated with inappropriate methods.
A total of 1,555 girls from various schools, including Bouhlo Middle School, Msila Middle School, Bab Marzouka Middle School, Beni Frassen Middle School, and Bab Al Mourouj Middle School, benefited from the campaign. Additionally, the initiative extended to student housing centers in Beni Lent, Kaldman, and Oulad Zbair. The activities were marked by active participation from medical and administrative staff from the Health and Social Protection Delegation, alongside the educational teams of the targeted institutions.
The sessions went beyond merely providing information, incorporating open dialogues to address the girls’ questions and encouraging positive communication with their families and social circles. At the conclusion of the campaign, hygiene kits were distributed to the participants as a practical step to reinforce the concepts discussed.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at improving public health and supporting girls during puberty, helping to build their self-confidence and equipping them to navigate this phase with safety and assurance.
