Widespread Food Poisoning in Mediouna Sparks Health and Safety Concerns

The city of Mediouna witnessed a widespread case of food poisoning as the regional hospital received approximately 140 individuals on Sunday evening, all suffering from severe fever, pain, and high temperatures after consuming fast food from a popular local establishment.

In a statement, Sahar Bouadel, Delegate of the Ministry of Health and Social Protection in Mediouna, confirmed that the hospital provided necessary treatments to all affected individuals. While most were discharged after treatment, five patients remained under medical care as of Monday morning.

sahar added that five of the cases required transfer to the Ibn Rochd University Hospital Center for advanced care, with two children transferred to the Abderrahim Harrouchi Children’s Hospital due to persistent high fevers.

Despite the high number of cases, Bouadel reassured the public that none of the poisonings were critical, and no patients required intensive care. Consumer protection associations have raised concerns about the incident, viewing it as a wake-up call for citizens to exercise caution with street food. These organizations are calling for stricter health inspections to ensure public safety.

Notably, the fast-food outlet responsible for the outbreak opened less than a year ago, intensifying worries about the safety of foods sold in public spaces.
