Concerns in Morocco’s Tourism Sector as “Mystery Client” Visits Approach

The Moroccan Ministry of Tourism’s announcement of launching the “Mystery Client” program has sparked concern among hotel owners and tourist accommodation centers in the Kingdom. This program comes as part of Morocco’s preparations to host the African Cup and the World Cup.

Fatima Zahra Ammor, Minister of Tourism, Handicrafts, Social and Solidarity Economy, revealed that the “Mystery Client” will conduct inspection visits to tourist facilities in the coming weeks, aiming to evaluate service quality and prepare reports that could lead to changes in the current hotel classifications.

According to “Al Ahdath Al Maghribia” newspaper, the “Mystery Client” will work in collaboration with a specialized regional committee to thoroughly examine and evaluate hotels and tourist accommodation centers, in order to establish a new classification system.

Minister Ammor, in her response to a question from the Moroccan Labor Union team in the Advisors Council, stated: “We seek to adopt a more fair and transparent classification,” adding that “the Mystery Client’s report will contribute to enhancing the monitoring of hotel service quality.”

In parallel with this initiative, the Ministry of Tourism is working alongside the Ministry of Interior to strengthen the legal framework for tourism professions. The implementing texts of Law 14.80 relating to tourist establishments and other forms of tourist accommodation have recently been published.
