In a historic diplomatic move reflecting the evolution of Moroccan-French relations, France is preparing to open a general consulate and French institute in Laayoune, making it the first European diplomatic representation in Morocco’s southern provinces.
According to informed sources, this initiative is expected to be officially announced during the French President’s anticipated address to the Moroccan Parliament on October 29, with the formal inauguration scheduled for November 6, coinciding with the anniversary of the Green March.
Information obtained by the Institute of Geopolitics Horizons indicates that the consulate will be located in the Al Salam district of Laayoune. This historic decision comes three months after Paris declared its recognition of Moroccan sovereignty over the Moroccan Sahara.
