Germany Renews Support for Strategic Partnership Between Morocco and European Union

Germany has renewed its support for the multidimensional strategic relationship between Morocco and the European Union, amid recent developments regarding the European Court of Justice’s decision on fishing and agriculture agreements.

The German Foreign Ministry spokesman emphasized the pivotal importance of the Morocco-EU partnership, stressing that the deep and historical relations between the two parties will continue their path of strengthening and development.

The German position comes in harmony with the joint statement issued by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen and EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Josep Borrell following the European Court of Justice’s decision. The statement reaffirmed the European Union’s commitment to maintaining and strengthening its relations with Morocco in all areas, in accordance with the principle of “pacta sunt servanda” which stipulates that agreements between parties must be respected.

The joint statement, considered rare in its form, reflects Morocco’s strategic importance to the European Union. Germany also noted the deepening of its bilateral relations with Morocco through strategic dialogue conducted at the highest level between the foreign ministers of both countries.
