The national campaign for breast cancer awareness and early detection was launched on October 1st, 2024, under the slogan “Your check-up now ensures peace of mind, don’t hesitate.”
Breast cancer is one of the most common types of cancer among women.
In 2020, Morocco recorded 11,747 new cases and 3,695 related deaths. According to the latest National Cancer Registry Report (2018-2021), breast cancer accounts for 39.1% of female cancers, followed by cervical cancer at 6.5%.
Early detection of breast and cervical cancer remains a top priority in the National Cancer Prevention and Control Program (2020-2029), which aims to enhance early screening and facilitate access to diagnostic and treatment centers.
As part of “Pink October,” the Ministry of Health and Social Protection, alongside governmental bodies and civil society, is intensifying efforts to raise awareness about the importance of early detection.
The campaign will run until October 31st, 2024, with active participation from the Regional Directorate of Health and Social Protection in the Fes-Meknes region and Hassan II University Hospital in Fes.
The health infrastructure has been bolstered with eight referral centers for reproductive health.
Collaborations with civil society organizations have been activated, and specific pathways for beneficiaries have been organized at diagnostic centers to ease access.
Mobile medical units have also been added to provide early detection services in remote areas.
In line with other regions of the country, the Fes-Meknes region will support the campaign through media broadcasts, awareness spots, and educational sessions featuring doctors and specialists.
