The Faculty of Medicine and Pharmacy at Mohammed V University in Rabat has issued an important announcement to students, inviting them to take the exams scheduled for Thursday, September 5, 2024.The university stated in the announcement that students who participate in the September 5 exams are entitled to hold an extraordinary session for the second semester, which allows them to nullify a zero score due to absence from previous exams.
Rights of Suspended Students
The university also indicated that suspended students who are subject to disciplinary penalties and have filed complaints are also eligible to take the exams.This decision comes after the Dialogue Committee representing the majority groups in the House of Representatives announced receiving a new proposal from the Minister of Higher Education, Scientific Research, and Innovation regarding the crisis in medical and pharmacy schools. This proposal aims to ensure the completion of the 2023/2024 academic year in medical, pharmacy, and dental schools by allowing students who take the remedial exams to sit for additional sessions during the second semester.
Students’ Stance
A source from the National Committee of Medical Students stated that students are “forced to once again boycott the exams on this date, as the same conditions that led them to boycott previous exams are still in place.”The source added that “students are currently in a state of failure, as over 20,000 students were failed at the end of July, and this failure status still exists, raising questions about inviting students to take exams while they are already in a failed status.”Furthermore, the source confirmed that students have democratically decided not to take the exams without lifting the penalties and restoring student activities within the colleges. It is also noted that it is impossible to announce an exam date without prior agreement on this date after resolving the crisis.
