National coach, Tarek El Sektioui, expressed his great happiness and pride after the Moroccan Olympic team won the bronze medal in the soccer competitions at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
This achievement came after a crushing victory over the Egyptian national team with six clean sheets in the ranking match held at the Stade de la Boguarde in Nantes.
In his post-match remarks, Sektioui emphasized: “God does not lose the reward of those who do well. “The players were men and gave a heartfelt performance. It is impossible to imagine the magnitude of the difficulties we faced and the efforts made by everyone, from the management and the Royal Moroccan Football Association, led by Faouzi Lekjaa, to the players and all the components of the national team. We worked with a spirit full of patriotism.”
Sektioui added: “Everyone was aware of the great responsibility placed on them, as the team strived to fulfill the expectations of the fans and raise the level of Moroccan football. Despite the challenges, we played strong matches, except for the loss to Ukraine in the group stage and the defeat to Spain in the semifinals, where we could have achieved a better result.”
According to the coach: “We showed that we are a group that knows how to deal with defeats and turn them into a source of strength. We proved it in two games, against Iraq and America. Despite some small details that affected the team’s performance against Spain, we worked with everything we had.”
El Sektioui concluded his speech with a special dedication to this historic medal, saying: “I dedicate this medal to King Mohammed VI, and to my big family, especially my small family, especially my mother.”
It is noteworthy that the Moroccan Olympic team achieved a historic achievement after winning the bronze medal, becoming the first Arab team to win a medal in the history of the Olympic Games, as the Moroccan team played 6 matches in this tournament, in which it won 4 victories and suffered 2 defeats, and scored 15 goals, to be among the highest scoring teams in the tournament.
The ranking match came after the exit of the Moroccan and Egyptian teams from the semifinals, as they lost the chance to reach the final after losing to Spain and France.
