Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Waleed al-Khuraiji expressed the Kingdom’s condemnation of the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, former Palestinian Prime Minister, during his visit to Tehran last week.
Al-Khuraiji considered this act a clear violation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as a violation of international law and the United Nations Charter, which threatens peace and security in the region.
In his speech during the extraordinary meeting of the Executive Committee of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) held in Jeddah, Al-Khuraiji affirmed the Kingdom’s government’s commitment to its firm stance on the Palestinian cause. He condemned the attacks carried out by the Israeli occupation forces against civilians, stressing Saudi Arabia’s categorical rejection of any violations of national sovereignty or interference in the internal affairs of other countries, in accordance with international conventions.
Al-Khuraiji also expressed Saudi Arabia’s deep concern over the increasing violations by the Israeli occupation army, which resulted in large numbers of martyrs and wounded civilians in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank. He drew attention to the difficult humanitarian conditions suffered by citizens, as a result of the shortage of food, medicine and fuel, and the exhaustion of the health system due to the increasing number of patients and displaced persons.
At the end of his speech, the Deputy Foreign Minister called on the international community to take effective measures to hold the Israeli occupation forces accountable for these crimes and violations, emphasizing the negative impact of these actions on the chances of resuming the peace process. He expressed the Kingdom’s support for all efforts aimed at ending the occupation of the Palestinian territories and achieving a comprehensive solution that enables the Palestinian people to establish their independent state in accordance with international legitimacy resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The remarks came during Al-Khuraiji’s participation on behalf of Prince Faisal bin Farhan bin Abdullah, Minister of Foreign Affairs, in a meeting that brought together a number of member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
