On the basis of accurate information provided by the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance (DGTS), the judicial police services in Marrakech arrested on Monday morning an 18-year-old loyalist of the terrorist organization “Daesh”, active in the village of Oureika in the Al Hoze region, on suspicion of involvement in the preparation of several highly dangerous terrorist projects that would have targeted sensitive sites in the Kingdom, according to a statement released by the Central Office for Judicial Investigation of the General Directorate for Territorial Surveillance.
This operation resulted in the seizure of electronic props, as well as a plastic bottle containing a suspicious liquid and a quantity of chemical powder, which will be subjected to expertise by the competent authorities, said a communiqué of the Central Office for Judicial Investigation of the General Directorate of Surveillance of the National Territory (DGST).
According to the preliminary investigations, the arrested person, who was imbued with the extremist ideology of “ISIS” and pledged allegiance to the alleged emir of this terrorist organization, acquired expertise in the field of preparing explosive devices, in anticipation of implementing his subversive project. At the same time, the suspect established ties with ISIS field operatives with the aim of recommending him and facilitating his joining one of the organization’s branches in the sub-Saharan Sahel region after carrying out his terrorist projects, the source said.
The source pointed out that the arrest of the suspect and the thwarting of his plans was the result of close coordination between the GDST and its counterparts from foreign intelligence services.
He added that the suspect was taken into custody pending the judicial investigation conducted by the Central Office for Judicial Investigation under the supervision of the Public Prosecution in charge of terrorism cases, in order to uncover all the extremist activities attributed to him and to verify his possible links with various terrorist organizations.
