The Wydad Athletic Club of Casablanca is preparing to elect a new president. On Tuesday, the club announced the closure of candidacy applications to replace the current president, Abdelmajid Bernaki. The latter has decided to step down after helping Wydad overcome the serious crisis it went through following the imprisonment of former president Said Naciri in 2014.
Five candidates are vying for the prestigious presidency of Wydad. They are Anas Kourami, Karam Nassek, Hicham Ait Menna, Otail Touzar and Saadallah Yassin, according to a statement from the club. “In preparation for the upcoming general assembly, Wydad Athletic Club announces the closure of candidacy applications for the presidency on Monday, June 10, in accordance with a previous notice,” the statement said.
Among these candidates, Hicham Ait Menna, the former president of Chabab Mohammedia, seems to be the frontrunner. The young Anas Kourami also drew attention with his campaign where he highlighted his project in a video posted on his YouTube channel.
The new president of Wydad will be elected during the ordinary general assembly scheduled for July 18. He will have the difficult task of continuing the rehabilitation of this prestigious Casablanca club.
