Brussels, May 22, 2024: The SchengenNews website, citing a statement from the Slovenian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs, has announced a 12% increase in Schengen short-stay visa fees (type C) starting June 11, 2024.
The fees will increase from €80 to €90 for adults and from €40 to €45 for children between the ages of 6 and 12. The increase will apply to all countries worldwide, according to the website.
The European Union has not yet made an official announcement regarding the Schengen visa fee increase. However, the decision is expected to be published in the Official Journal of the European Union at the end of the week.
It is worth noting that the European Union had proposed increasing visa fees in February, citing the possibility of reviewing fees every three years, according to European Commission rules. The EU attributed the increase to rising inflation rates in the European Union.
This increase in Schengen visa fees comes as part of the European Union’s efforts to strengthen security and better manage migration. The increase aims to better cover the costs of processing visa applications and enhance the EU’s ability to combat illegal immigration.
The increase is expected to affect travelers from Arab countries who wish to visit the Schengen Area. We advise travelers to check the new visa requirements and procedures before planning their trips.tunesharemore_vert
