Fadwa Mohsen Al-Hayani, representative of the Progressive Socialist Party in the House of Representatives, asked the Minister of Agriculture, Mohamed Seddiqi, about the rise in red meat prices and its impact on Eid Al-Adha.
Red meat prices are rising significantly in the Kingdom’s markets. The price of a kilo of lamb today is about 120 dirhams, which burdens the budgets of families, especially those with modest incomes.
In addition to the rise in red meat prices, Moroccans fear that this situation will lead to an increase in sheep prices a few weeks before Eid al-Adha. Last year, despite the government-subsidized import of livestock, prices were not regulated. The representative confirmed that many families were unable to buy sheep for sacrifice.
Al-Hayani addressed a written question to the minister about the measures planned to reduce the prices of red meat and prevent the rise in sheep prices during Eid al-Adha.
