The President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, Theodore Rousopoulos, praised Morocco’s role in establishing stable relations between Africa and Europe during his visit to Rabat on Monday. He added that the reforms led by His Majesty King Mohammed VI make the Kingdom a “model in the region.”
Positive Relations and Cooperation
Rousopoulos, speaking at a press conference following his discussions with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccans Residing Abroad, Nasser Bourita, emphasized that “the reforms carried out by Morocco in recent years, under the leadership of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, are in line with the principles of the Council of Europe.”
The President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe also expressed satisfaction with the close relations between the Moroccan Parliament, its two chambers, and the Council of Europe, which is celebrating its seventy-fifth anniversary this year.
Enhancing Parliamentary Links
Rousopoulos praised the effective cooperation between the Moroccan Parliament and the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, stating that efforts will be made in the coming months to strengthen and enhance these ties.
Development of Relations
Since 2011, the Moroccan Parliament has benefited from the status of Partner for Democracy with the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe, allowing for active participation in the activities of the Assembly.
To further develop these relations, Rousopoulos announced that members of Moroccan parliamentary delegations will now be able to propose recommendations and resolutions jointly signed by a member of the Assembly. They will also have the opportunity to submit amendments, with the joint signature of an Assembly member, and request discussions on current issues. Additionally, they will be able to submit written statements to the Assembly to express their views and perspectives.
