Morocco’s Lawyers: Warning Sit-in Temporarily Suspended, Escalation Against the Draft Law Continues

Rabat – The Federation of Young Lawyers’ Associations in Morocco announced on Monday the temporary suspension of the warning sit-in it had previously called for until Tuesday, June 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m., following a meeting of its federal bureau and a field visit by a delegation from the Association of Moroccan Bar Associations.

According to a statement issued by the federation, the decision to suspend the sit-in came after a meeting between federation members and a delegation led by the Association’s President, Bâtonnier El Houssein Zayani, accompanied by several bar presidents. The parties agreed to postpone the protest action in order to preserve the unity of the legal profession and take into account the sensitivity of the current situation.

The federation stated that it entrusts the Association of Moroccan Bar Associations with leading the next phase, calling for an open and constructive dialogue among all components of the legal profession to unify positions regarding the draft law governing the legal profession.

It also reaffirmed its commitment to defending its demands and maintaining its protest movement until the objectives it considers essential to safeguarding the independence of the legal profession and preserving its acquired rights are achieved.

This development comes amid the ongoing mobilization of Morocco’s legal community over the controversial draft law regulating the legal profession, while observers await the outcome of the upcoming consultations between the various professional stakeholders.

The parties agreed to postpone the protest action in the interest of preserving professional unity and considering the sensitivity of the current situation.

The federation emphasized that it entrusts the Association of Moroccan Bar Associations with leading the next stage and called for an open and transparent dialogue among all members of the legal profession to unify positions regarding the draft law regulating the profession.

It also reaffirmed its commitment to defending its demands and continuing its protest movement until it achieves what it considers essential goals, namely protecting the independence of the legal profession and preserving its long-standing rights and guarantees.
