International Agriculture Forum: Signing of a new cooperation project between Morocco and the European Union
On adapting Moroccan agricultural and forestry training and research to the challenges of the ecological transition

On the sidelines of the sixteenth session of the International Forum for Agriculture in Morocco, a commitment contract was signed on Tuesday, April 23, 2024 in Meknes, for a new project to support the adaptation of Moroccan agricultural and forestry training and research to the challenges of ecological transition, called “Innovation” between the Kingdom of Morocco and the European Union, represented in the person of each. From Mr. Mohamed Seddiqi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests of Morocco, and Ms. Patricia Lombart-Cossack, Ambassador of the European Union to Morocco.
The two parties committed to supporting a new cooperation project with the Union of Training and Research in Agriculture and Forestry, which brings together the Hassan II Agricultural and Veterinary Institute (IAV), the National Institute of Agricultural Research (INRA), the National School of Agriculture of Meknes (ENAM) and the National School of Forestry Engineers (ENFI).

Mrs. Patricia Lombart-Cossack, Ambassador of the European Union to Morocco, stated: “The support of the training and research system, by four well-known Moroccan agricultural and forestry institutions, aims to enhance the preparation of new generations of decision-makers, women and men, engineers, trainers, technicians, consultants and researchers in the world of agriculture, wealth and wealth.” livestock and forests to more effectively address the common challenges of climate change, resource regeneration and biodiversity, as well as green entrepreneurship.”

For his part, Mr. Mohamed Seddiqi, Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries, Rural Development, Water and Forests of Morocco, said: “This green partnership between Morocco and the European Union bears witness to our commitment to sustainable agriculture capable of adapting to climate change, and we welcome the concrete actions that have been taken and those included in the future, and in It is precisely in this context that the support provided to the national system of agricultural training and research has been included, which aims to keep pace with the adaptation of Moroccan agricultural and forestry training and research to the challenges of the ecological transition.

The value of the “Innovation” project amounts to 43 million dirhams (4 million euros) and is funded by the European Union. It extends over a period of 3 and a half years and has four main objectives:

Adapting curricula to the challenges of environmental transformation and training a new generation of students, farmers, and foresters in sustainable production practices and systems and better preparing to face climate challenges;

Strengthening a collaborative research framework directed at the challenges of ecological transition and climate change, as well as establishing a system of cooperation and exchange of research results with the aim of ensuring the sustainability of food and forest systems;

Dissemination of skills and knowledge, both towards and among actors, as well as the dissemination of technology pathways that are adaptive and sensitive to environmental transformation.

Design and implementation of incubator systems, as well as initial and ongoing training modules on entrepreneurship in sustainable production/consumption chains.

This project is part of the Green Earth Programme, funded by the European Union, with a total amount of €115 million, which contributes to the objectives of sustainability and the social and economic inclusion of agricultural and forestry policies, in support of the Green Generation and Forestry Strategies of Morocco, and is implemented in 4 leading agriculture and forestry regions: Tangier – Tetouan-Al Hoceima, Beni Mellal-Khenifra, Draa-Tafilalet and the eastern region.
